Arrest of Meng Wanzhou

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing well in this snowy afternoon!

In our second episode of the year, Josh Tafel sits down with Chengkun Lv to discuss the political aftermath of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou’s arrest, and the impact it has had on Sino-Canadian relations. By analyzing how China has responded, the two examine the political implications of the arrest from a Chinese perspective.

Chengkun Lv is a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs student at the University of British Columbia. With an undergraduate background in history focusing on the interaction between Western countries and East Asia after the 1500s—also with interests in a series of areas where China and Canada could cooperate on, such as sustainability and climate change—Chengkun aspires to document, analyze, and advise on China and Canada’s policies towards each other.

Josh Tafel is a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs student at the University of British Columbia. Born and raised in Vancouver, Josh completed his BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at UBC’s Okanagan campus. He is interested especially in the interaction between philosophy and economics, and hopes to make change by looking at how global cooperation can drive economic development.
